借りくらしのアリエッティを見てきた。もう素晴らしいの一言に尽きる。小人のアリエッティの目線から広がる世界が、なんと新鮮なことか。空から落ちてくる雨の一粒一粒の大きいこと、ダンゴムシやカマキリのグロテスクなこと、そして何より、人間という存在の恐ろしいことーいつも見慣れているはずの生活世界が、全く違ったものとして浮き上がってくる、人間の目線からは決して辿りつけない世界について、徹底的に想像して再構築する。ジブリの真骨頂が存分に発揮されていた作品だと思う。

　I went to theater to watch the newly released Studio Ghibli’s film, “The Borrower Arrietty”. All I can say about this moive is “Wow, Wonderful”. How vivid and inspiring the scenes seen from Arrietty’s eye–How gigantic one drop of rain can be, how grotesque sow bug and mantis, and how frightening human-being can be. What used to be faimilar daily sights can be seen totally different when you look through the eyes of dwarfish. Reconstructing invisible world through animation is Studio Ghiblis true value.
　特に、音の使い方が印象に残っている。アリエッティが人間の家に入ったとき、あの視界をグラつかせるような重音が四方六方から襲いかかる。アリエッティーはこれまで見たことのない人間の世界を目の前にして恐怖を覚える。そのとき我々はすでにアリエッティの身体と同一化している。いかに人間が恐ろしい存在なのかを五感を通じて思い知らされる。
　What attracted me most is the effective way of using “sound”. When Arrietty entered into a house, a thundering roar confronted her from various angles. She must have been horrified to see human-world for the first time. By identifying ourselves with Arrietty, it is easy to realize how horrified human-being appears to dwarf.
　不満があるとすれば、作品に一貫して流れるペシミズムである。結局、人間と小人の共生は不可能であるという終わり方だった。この作品を見終わってから、何だかモヤモヤして、やりきれない気持ちが残った。これは見る人の捉え方によって全然違うだろうし、むしろ、前向きに感じる人もいたかもしれない。これはファンタジーのなかのリアル感を忠実に描くのか、ファンタジーのファンタジー感を大切にするかという点に関わってくるものだろう。
　Watching this film, a sense of sadness endlessly lingered in my mind. Is this film a bit too pessimistic? Of course, you might argue that human-being and non-human being cannot coexist in harmony and that this cannot be avoided in order to keep up with original story. In this respect, the question lies in how royal film should be to original novel, or how it can depart from the original.
　私の気持ちとしては、もう少し強く分かりやすくハッピー感を出してほしかった。特に、主人公の男の子のしょうは、もう少し強い意志があってほしかった。どうして動物と人間が共に暮らすことができないのだろうか。それは人間のヒューマニティーの力では乗り越えられない壁なのだろうか。人間の意思で乗り越えられると思うことは、そもそも傲慢なのだろうかー。ファンタジーに希望の光を見出すことはを間違っているのだろうか。
　Personally, I wished that the film came to a happy end and that Sho, one of the main character, should have shown a stronger will to keep her at his place. Why can not dwarf and human-being live together in peace? Is there an unsurpassable wall between those two, which cannot be overcome by the power of humanity? Is it arrogant to think that human’s will of power can overcome it? Am I wrong to think that fantasy should provide a grain of hope for our humanity?
